JEFFERSON COUNTY TOMORROW

Concerned Citizens Joined to Protect and Preserve a Way of Life Worth Fighting For!

Jefferson County Tomorrow began with a small group of local citizens that valued our rural heritage, respected the importance of preserving our agricultural community, appreciated the life style offered in Jefferson County and shared a deep concern for every aspect of our environment. Through community awareness and involvement, this organization has become a county wide force dedicated to true progress and development which will benefit the entire community.

Jefferson County Tomorrow supports sustainable growth of business and economic development by implementing long term planning. Consideration to development should not only be given to the perceived economic value, but also to the intangible cost of every citizen's right to protect and preserve a way of life worth fighting for.

Jefferson County Tomorrow is concerned about irresponsible government and backroom politics. We object to reckless development and self serving projects for private business ventures. Jefferson County is faced with such a development today. Norfolk Southern Rail Road is proceeding with plans to build an Intermodal Rail Yard in New Market. Exhaustive research shows this project will provide little benefit to the county or the tax payers however, we will be responsible for at least $23 million dollars in building costs for the rail yard infrastructure. Comparable examples of this type of development exist across the nation and evidence clearly shows community degradation, citizen endangerment and devastation of the environment.

Jefferson County Tomorrow will continue to stand up to Norfolk Southern Rail Road and our dispassionate elected officials who agreed to proceed without providing the facts to the citizens of Jefferson County about the rail yard and how we will suffer it's effects today and tomorrow.
